Sentosa Island provides an exciting and active mix of over two miles of beaches, dramatic man-made scenery and natural attractions combined with a theme park, which could justly be described as a tropical Disneyland. To make a complete experience there are also several museums and historical sites and a key part of the atmosphere is generated by the warm welcome with which the visitor is greeted. Located not far from the energy and bustle of modern Singapore one can travel to this exciting playground by foot by taxi via the causeway or, probably the most exciting way to arrive there, is to take the twelve minute cable car ride which affords outstanding panoramic views of the whole area. Alternatively a boardwalk allows you a leisurely stroll from the waterfront on a canopy covered travelator. In all Sentosa is basically a modern luxury recreation-island conveniently located just to the south of the Singapore city center. For the tourist to maintain the energy levels needed to sample the resorts adventure rides, animal parks, wildlife reserves, gardens and evening clubbing scene a stay in one of the Sentosa five star hotels is definitely required. The visitor has a good choice and hotels here are well priced and plentiful.

Sentosa has three beaches made of gleaming white sand cooled by tall coconut palms with beautiful flowering trees, all framed by rustic alang huts. There are long beachfronts with islets and floating bridges with each beach having its own character. For example Siloso beach is the fun center with volleyball (free on a first come first served basis) several theme bars and restaurants together with an area where you can surf man-made waves or just sit in the whirlpool bath watching the energetic skim-boarding, kayaking or rollerblading. On the other hand Tanjong beach is the place to go if you value solitude and tranquility.

Those interested in nature will find lots to interest them. One of the key attractions is Sentosa's 45 hectares of coastal and inland forest here you can find over 170 species of birds and animals. There is the Butterfly Park and Insect Kingdom and if you want to see larger creatures you can visit pink dolphins at play in the Dolphin Lagoon and then perhaps go on to visit the Underwater World Oceanarium to view a multisensory sound and light water show. Here you can walk through a transparent underwater tunnel to enable you to see more than 2,500 sea creatures up close in their own unrestricted environment. The Maritime Museum showcases the huge richness of Asia's maritime history and includes a look at the silk route and trade along the Straits of Malacca from the 9th to 19th Century.

For those more interested in shopping or dining there are many quality retail centers spread out across the island all close to a variety of restaurants. In order to make the most of the island most people stay at one of the Sentosa five star hotels for a few nights to take in all the sights and activities. This also gives you the opportunity to pop over to the mainland to visit Singapore one of South East Asia's most vibrant cities.

For the golfer Sentosa offers a world-class award winning course now home to the Singapore Open and the Asian tour. It has two of the most beautiful and challenging 18 hole championship courses in the region. Again the many Sentosa five star hotels provide the gofer and their family with convenient and luxurious rooms on site. After a game Sentosa island provides a fantastic dining destination with world class food served in over 50 restaurants all with stunning views overlooking the China Sea. There is a wide variety of Asian food on offer but Italian and other award winning European food is also available.

Finally the island now houses Universal Studios Singapore a theme park which has 24 attractions most of which have been specifically designed for Singapore. The seven theme zones include Ancient Egypt, the Lost World and Sci-Fi City. For the gambler Sentosa has one of the world's newest gaming halls and this can be combined with viewing Dale Chihuly's famous glass sculptures and watching top-class shows on top of a variety of table and electronic games.
